Recently, Panasonic’s Company President Naoto Noguchi met up with Tesla Chief Technology Officer JB Straubel to present the first batch of li-ion cells produced at Panasonic’s new facility. Just last January, the two big automotive figures agreed to team up to develop this next generation EV battery cells. Tesla consented to using Panasonic cells for their newest battery packs.

These cells, according to Panasonic, features a Nickel based Lithium ion chemistry. Straubel also stated that with these “cutting edge Panasonic batteries”, Tesla’s battery pack technology will provide the highest density battery packs for electric vehicles in the world.

Straubel also announced that Tesla will be delivering the Tesla Roadsters to select consumers in Japan. This will be the company’s first Asian delivery. Tesla already distributed 1,000 Roadsters to their customers in North America and Europe. The Panasonic-Tesla battery packs will be powering these green car-Roadsters. In addition to this, Tesla is also working on the production of battery packs for Daimler Smart EVs.

The company is also reportedly working on battery development programs for other vehicle and stationary customers. Panasonic and Tesla are reportedly “deepening their relationship” in their joint efforts to optimize electric vehicle cells. This was initially announced in a Panasonic factory visit by Straubel last January.

Panasonic previously announced its development of two new high capacity lithium-ion batteries late December last year. These are 3.4 ah and 4.0 ah lithium-ion cells with an optimized nickel based positive electrode. These inspired the cells produced by Panasonic for Tesla, with some alterations to fit the latter’s battery pack. To date, Panasonic is considered the largest producer of lithium-ion batteries. I can’t wait to rent a Tesla Roadster asap!

Ferrari will be releasing a special edition of the 599 GTB Fiorano that is equipped with the Handling Grand Turismo Evoluzione or HGTE Package. This short and very exclusive run will only make less than twelve units of this special prancing horse. It will go by the name 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE China Limited Edition and were produced with the help of famous Chinese artisan Lu Hao. This car looks a lot different than the one Michael Schumacher tested on its release – but it’ll have basicly the same characteristics.

The limited edition vehicle will come in two-tone paint scheme which will have red paint and a gray top. The Chinese artist will imprint the character Xiao Zhuan on the car’s plate and mark the start button and the rev counter with the same character.

Lu Hao also made a special unit which features a pattern similar to the Ge Liln porcelain used during the Song Dynasty. This one unit uses jade for its starter button. It also sports the signature of the artist. This very limited edition of the 599 GTB Fiorano will be auctioned in Beijing during the charity gala sponsored by Ferrari. Proceeds from this auction will be used to fund the schooling of Chinese students interested in engineering.

The HGTE package is engineered to provide a more dynamic and more dynamic driving experience. The set up includes stiffer springs, new calibration for the shocks, and anti roll bars. The height of the ride is also made lower to adjust the center of gravity of the design. The tires of the vehicle also use compounds which improves the grip of the tires.

Hennessey Performance Engineering gives the car industry a preview of what is to come as they share some information about the performance concept car the Venom GT before its reveal at the 2010 auto show in Geneva.

The concept of Venom GT was made known to the public in 2007 but the car had to go through several revisions on the drawing board. We can assume that the designers and engineers of the Venom GT are now satisfied and it seems the car they plan to build will be a speed demon.

It will be a monster as Hennessey engineers are planning to put a 1200 horsepower V8 engine in a chassis lighter than 2400 pounds. Given that idea, 0 to 60mph may just be a wink of 2.4 seconds while 0 to 100 mph will be at a lightning 5.3 seconds.

The top speed for the Venom GT can be expected to hit 272 mph. It will take the car 20 seconds to complete a 0 to 200 mph to 0 task.

The handling also looks promising looking at the mid engine configuration, rear drive setup, moving rear wing, and its low ride profile. A picture of how the air flows around the car is creating a buzz in the four corners of the internet.

The Venom GT seems to be based on the Lotus Exige when you look at the similarities but the Venom GT can hold its own ground in terms of looks and definitely performance.

Alfa Romeo’s 8C Competizione is a car to drool for wherever you look at it. A recent update also reveals that a Spider Convertible will be ready for delivery to the United States by January 2010. Talking about exclusivity, Alfa Romeo will only produce 500 units of 8C Spider like what they did to the hard top sibling.

It might be a long shot to get our hands behind the wheels of this car. The 8C Spider has a sticker price of $299,000 that includes shipping cost. Yes, you read it correctly and the tag price just makes the 8C Spider the most expensive car that ever rolled off Alfa Romeo’s car plant. It might keep the status for a while.

The 8C Competizione and the 8C Spider comes to life in Modena, Italy and shares mechanical platform with the Maserati Granturismo. The force that pushes you back the seat comes from a V8 4.7L power plant that at 7000 RPM can output 450hp.

The powerful engine is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox equipped with self shift technology controlled by computer guided shift levers near the steering wheeling. It also has a differential unit that is self blocking.

Alfa Romeo aside from making sure that you get the power and speed you want also ensured that you can stop the car when you want. The 8C Spider has the best Brembo brakes in the market installed on its 20 inch wheels. Carbon ceramic 380mm and 360 mm brakes are installed on the front and back, respectively. The Spider maximizes safety technology with the VDC stability and traction system.

The car industry might be in a surprise for next year as Alfa Romeo celebrates its 100th year in the business. There is a loud buzz that ther will be a high performance sibling of the 8C in the works. Only 100 units may come off their garage for this unless there will also be a GTA variant of the 8C Spider.
